TP6 – Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Evonik Chair of Organic Chemistry

The group of Lukas Gooßen has profound expertise in organic synthetic method development, particularly regarding transition metal-catalysed processes. These include oxidative C-H functionalisation and decarboxylative transformations of carboxylic and carbonic acid derivatives and electrochemical arene functionalisation. The group has experience designing parallel laboratory reactors and automated analysis techniques and has developed a fully integrated electronic laboratory system.

TP6 targets the anodic generation of percarbonate, percarboxylate and/or ozone-based oxidisers at high current densities. These transfer oxidisers will be evaluated in ex-situ oxidations of organic molecules such as amines, thioethers, sulfides or alkenes, and of inorganic substrates such as ammonia and – ideally – dinitrogen. Finally, the generation of the oxidiser and the ex-situ oxidation of a synthetically meaningful target molecule such as N,N-dimethyl dodecyl amine will be combined into a continuously operated circular flow process.
